Buying Behaviours and the Adoption Led Market

11:00 – 11:30 - Telford Theatre

Speaker: Simon Phipps, Sun Microsystems

Abstract: The language with which we speak of commercial software is heavily informed by the expectation that adopting it will be preceded by the procurement of licenses. But the increasing trend towards open source software managed by communities means this vocabulary is overdue for revision. This talk explores the origins of the change around open source and proposes a new way of describing the emerging, open software market.
